Saving a bromeliad with crown rot?

I recently purchased an unusual unidentified species that I am very unlikely to be able to replace as the vendor travels and brings back a few wild plants to sell (and does not tend to have the same thing twice). I put it in a pot with perlite until I got around to ordering a mount on ebay. I finally got the mount and when I took the bromeliad out of the pot, I noticed the center leaves were "wobbly". The center pulled and it is obvious the plant has crown rot(some fungus). I sprayed it with physan and intend to do so more thoroughly tomorrow. Where do I go from here to induce the plant to pup? If it were a common species I would toss it, but I will not be able to replace it so I really want it to live. Any suggestions?
