Why do they have to be grown by seed? There are cheap bromeliad pups of many varieties avaiable by mail order, and it's so much faster and easier! Seeds take a long time, and most of the spineless varieties belong in the branch of the family that take the longest (4-8 years). There are a few species of Aechmea and several Billbergias that can be brought to blooming size within 2 years under year-round tropical conditions, but they're not spineless, and probably not the best for low-light conditions.

Try doing a forum search for "terrarium" and see some examples of what other people have done.

Some smaller Guzmania cultivars are supposed to do well in a terrarium environment. Also Catopsis morreniana, and C. berteroniana. I'd also try to go for pups and not seeds since it will be a lot faster/easier.

Josh's frogs usually has a handful of different small neo's and other small broms. I was happy with the ones I bought this summer.

I've found some of the Tillandsia species (juncea in particular) will freely 'self sow', but I'd suggest starting from pups/offsets too. Miniature Neos can look amazing and are easy to manage. I sometimes find frogs hiding in the larger upright broms. I guess it depends on the size of your terrarium and the beasties within it.

One more thing...Do I for sure have to remove all of the diseased portions of the bromeliad for it to survive in this case, or will a soak in fungicide, followed by proper treatment be adequate? Thanks a bunch.
