Only if you want to create a standard tree, i.e., a single trunk tree. Some brugs grow with multiple branches/trunks and they look great; some can be easily shaped as a standard and they also look great. Depends on the space you have and look you are trying to achieve -- your call.

Thank you Eloise,I bought my first 2 brugs about 32 years ago as dead looking sticks in a grocery store on a 50% off shelf and have gotten many new plants from them...a white and a peach.We recently moved to S C and I see many growing in yards here.I am excited to be able to plant them in my landscape...of course I will not plant my mother plant out!!! :) .I hope to get in some of them trade/sale opportunities on here as I would like to get some of the other colors !
