Look I have a snake seedling !!!

The 2 cotyledons are fused at the base and apart at the top...looks like a snake tongue :-) not only, the whole aspect of the seedling looks like a snake.

Can somebody tell me why some seedlings come straight up (do not make the arch) and then they rot at the top before the 2 cotyledons appear? It happened with seeds from different sources. What am I doing wrong?

Are you giving them too much of the Chateau XXXX?
I see the bottle in the 1st pic. LOL LOL
just kidding, but I'm no help either. maybe keeping them too wet? Fungus Gnat Larve?

LOL Lucy, are you kidding? If not, look at the first pix again and see how the seedling curves standing up, also the tip has "two prongs" representing a snake's split tongue.

Pat, not sure if what is happening to your seedlings is damp off (or whatever the term is). Someone told me it was either too much moisture or not enough air circulation. Somewhere else I read someone recommending not using those peat planting things.

If it is happening mainly with your seeds in the peat pellets it could be that the PH of the pellet is wrong for Brugs ( Peat is acidic) and/or the peat is also keeping the soil too moist. I don't believe it is 'damping off' because the issue is not happening at the soil line.
