In your zone Datura metel, Datura innoxia and Datura wrightii should all come back from the roots. Just cut down the trunks.

They might or might not. If they set pods last year, I bet they dropped seeds though. I've had mine re-seed themselves. The wild birds also eat the seeds and spread them around the yard. I will find one an acre away from where I planted the others lol.

With some luck D. inoxia and D. wrightii come back from the roots as they form something like rhizomes. D. metel never came back for me. It's enough time to start some seeds - if you have some from the last season.
