Hi. It would help to know what zone you live in. There's no real time of year for brugs to bloom but many slow down during the hottest part of the summer and pick back up when it cools a bit. Blooming time depends on when it's Y'd and if he Y had been trimmed or left if the plant was dormant over the winter. I'm in zone 7a and usually cut my brugs way back before storing them. Those usually begin budding in mid summer but I stored several without cutting them back last winter and they've already formed buds. Maybe your plant wasn't receiving enough sun or fertilizer. You want at least morning sun for most varieties and they are very heavy feeders.I give mine a water soluable fertilizer weekly during the growing season. HTH Good luck.

Hi Karyn, I am in zone 7b, WA state. This brug was sent as a cutting so I don't know if it was cut before it Y'd. I kept it inside during the winter, didn't cut it back. I know last year I was totally ignorant as to how to care for it so it was in hot sun, didn't water it regularly and didn't fertilze at all. I almost threw it out last sept. Most of the time it is inside because it hasn't been warm enough to leave outside while I go to work because I get off when the temp has dropped to about 40. It is sitting by the patio door which faces south. I will start putting it outside to get morning sun (when we have it) and I have been fertilizing it weekly so far. Thank for the valuable info you give to us newbie!

I've been leaving mine outside and the nighttime temps have dipped into the low 40's a couple times. I haven't had a problem. Normally I'd say not to leave them out until nighttime temps are about 50 but I don't feel like schlepping them in and out.
