Karyn, let's hope this was a once in a very, very long time earthquake. Looked up that it was 3.6.

You had an earthquake in MD? How odd! But I remember when my daughter was a baby (1980?) we had one here in Colorado too, centered in Arvada on the NW side, and I felt it in Aurora, on the SE side of town. I guess they hit all over every now and then.

OOoh, I bet that was scary. I am terrified of earthquakes. Some earthquake movie I saw when I was a kid scarred me for life, lol. I am afraid the ground will open and swallow me up, lol. We were in Louisiana and they had several happen in Texas last year while we were gone. Very strange.

It wasn't scary. It was pretty cool but that's because it wasn't strong and there was no damage. It was kind of a novelty because we don't get earthquakes here. I can see how it could be really scary if it was strong and lasted more then a few seconds. The news reports said it lasted between 5 and 10 seconds here and we were closer to 5 seconds.

When a STRONG earthquake is less than 5 seconds, it is very scary, and those couple of seconds seem like an eternity! I have been through a couple of very strong earthquakes here in CA, and now when we have a small one, I freeze praying it won't continue on to become a strong one. My biggest fear with earthquakes is that my family would be hurt, but I try not to dwell on that.

I would freak out if the house shook for 2 seconds but here I would assume someone dropped a bomb on Fort Hood or something, lol. They set off artillary shells that shake the house every now and then and its probably 15 miles away.

Scary stuff!

That is pretty scary and pretty rare for MD. Even though I lived in California for a few years, the biggest earthquake I experienced was in Ohio. There's a huge fault right through the midwest.
