New to brugs/ripped leaves

Hello..I have a 4 ft brug outside in a pot..fully leafed out, no blooms yet, but....the leaves look to have been ripped in the center by something and there are some holes chewed in them also. What would cause the 'ripping' in the center part of the leaves? An insect?

Yes, sounds like insect damage. Check for green worms, they love tender new growth, but some will roll and dimple the leaves. Pick them off.
