Up here in Massachusetts, it's almost pointless to put a Brug in the ground. I grow them in pots each year, and usually chop them all up in October to start cuttings for the following year.

I used to have Brugs in the ground here in Illinois as well as pots.

The ones in the ground would get monstrous and so would the root systems. I'd dig them up, stick them in a bag in an old nursery pot, and put them away for "sleep" after chopping off cuttings to mail or start over the winter.

They had gotten sooooooooo big, they were too difficult to dig up each year. Now, I have them in monster plastic pots, and they're still over 12' tall. I've started giving the monsters away because they're just too large to haul around into storage.

I'm "downsizing" to Incas, an "Angel's Summer Dream" (dwarf) and only 2 "large" Brugs - Breezey (NOID gift from the forum here), and a Sun Sport. There's only so much room I had for 9 different 12' brugs.

It is time to give the monsters away - as much as it breaks my heart - it's time.
