Weird Seed Pod and asclepiads

This seed pod has weird growths on it. It's part of the pod and not something that can be scraped off. Does anyone know what it is or what causes it? I had a pod that looked similar a few years back. It ripened normally and the seeds were fine.

A bunch of my asclepiads are in bloom. Some are new and others I've had for quite a while. I have several more whose buds haven't opened yet. Most don't have much of a scent because they are so small but others are pretty stinky, nothing like S. gigantea though, thank goodness!

I'm not a big rose fan but I do love Cherry Brandy. When completely open it's the size of a softball.

These are not from my garden. DH gets them from Ecuador.
