overwintering question

Hi,

This is my first year with a NOID yellow Brug. It finally flowered one flower! a few weeks ago.

I have been reading on the this forum best ways to overwinter, and I am gathering from most peoples experiences that digging it up, potting it and storing in a dark basement is the best idea? let me know if I am wrong . . .

My question is even if I don't cut it down before winter storage, in the dark and chilly (50-55 degrees) basement, the plant I assume will break down and I will end up cutting off dead tissue. Does this mean I have to wait again next year for the "y" to form? Or will the "y" form faster next year?

Is there a way for me to get earlier blooms from the same plant without trying to keep it growing all winter inside?

I know I would have a terrible time with pests.

I am planning on taking cuttings in the next month, but this will be my first year with that and I am skeptical about my success with those! :)

welcome to the forum, I live zone 6B in Ohio, I do dig my Brugs, pot them up & store them in the Basement, I have grow lighs down there, so they go semi dormant, I water them about once a month, with just one cup of water, if I run out of flowers pots, I put mine in my potting soil bags, if you live close enough too me I can show you what I do with mine, also I have have lots of cuttings too share with you, I also have a couple Brugs that are over 6ft that need a home if you're interested just let me know

Thnaks for the response Elizabeth and the generous offer.
I am in Cincinnati. My first impulse is always to say yes to any offers of plants, but in reality I am not sure I have the space right now or the method to pick up 6' + brugs. (depending on where you are of course)
I would be interested in your cuttings though, if you could mail them, I could send postage or whatever you need. I have never traded or received cuttings or plants before. I'll try to email you directly.

I am 34 miles north of you, I will send the clippings through the mail if you prefer,I have many Brugs as well as some houseplants, just let me know which Brugs you want, I will be cutting them back the end of the month
