Very pale blooms this year

Hi folks. I have a pink brug which had quite deep pink flowers last year but this year the flowers were insipid and didn't get much colour till the flowers were dying off. Is there any reason for this. I would post a pic but I stripped it down yesterday for overwintering. I had a thought that maybe I could try giving it some hydrangea colouring next year to see if that would pink it up a bit more or would that be a mistake Any thoughts appreciated
Kind regards

Brugs prefer an almost neutral PH so I wouldn't mess with acidifying the soil Averil.
Are these Brugs in the ground or in a pot? If in a pot it could be they have used up all the 'micro' nutrients and if your fertilizer doesn't incorporate those nutrients, maybe this could be the cause of paler blooms.
