To get the tree-shape, standard, you have to cut off all branches except one strong central branch. That central branch is like the trunk of a tree, and should start branching on the top. It is easier to start training it as a standard when the plant is still small. Some brugs just seem to grow more naturally like a tree while others more like a shrub. Good luck.
