Jen cut it back to about 5~6" above the ground and put 4 to 6" of mulch on top and you should be fine.. Just make sure you have good drainage in case you have a wet Winter..
I am in Zone 8 and have a georgeous double yellow, planted outside. I need to know what to do with it now that the weather is getting winter-like. I bought it in FLA in May and it has been the most profilic plant I've had ever. SO, even though I have lots of seed pods, I want to keep my original plant.
WELL! You can dig it up and allow it to go dormant but you will probably lose you seed pods.. you can dig it and keep it growing and perhaps have a few pods make it or cut it and root the plant.. In your Z it should come back with no problem..
