Wow, I'm down to three chrysalids remaining. I released this girl yesterday. Today was warm and beautiful. I always release on the pipevine itself hoping the butterflies will return and lay eggs. Not yet it seems, but I'm hopeful. I certainly have enough pipevine!

Yes, A.californica. It's really taken off this year. I just hope some of these butterflies I have released will return and lay eggs on it! I even found some rooted in the mulch and I'm hoping I can pot that up and give it away.

These are not something we can really hope to see down here in So. Cal. So thanks for posting your great picture!

Do you have any hints on growing Calif. pipe vine?
I have one still in a 1 gallon pot from last year that I really must get into the soil soon!

I have released at least 50 PVS in the last 6 weeks. Have 12 left to make their debut. My vine is very slow this year so the PVS will probably not lay eggs until May. That's ok by me as I will be gone most of April.
