Falcate Orangetip

| Last Sunday I met up with about 15 members of the Ct butterfly association for a field trip. It was my first and was lead by a very knowledgeable guy of the Jeff Corwin/Steve Irwin type. He spent time pointing out things as we went and several times went crashing into the woods to net a butterfly so we could all see.
Specimens were put into a cd case and released unharmed after all got a good look and pics.
Granted, a picture through a cd case doesn't quite make a frameable print, it does show the markings well.

How beautiful! I've never seen a falcate orangetip - I don't know if they don't occur here, or I just haven't happened to see one, I'll have to look it up. Sounds like y'all had a good time! MissSherry |

| Yep, we did. I'd never seen one before either, although they are apparently common here in the early spring. This is the first year I started butterflying so early. The falcate orangetips were nectaring on a native arabis. The undersides are marbled with gray streaking. They might be mistaken for cabbage whites in flight. Especially the females, who have no orange tips. |
