It's a guy. Gals are very pale or yellowish above, and are a much harder find.

Really beautiful. Last year I found they really loved my tall zinnias. I haven't seen one yet this year.

I just finished waxing poetic on another thread about the wonderful reflection from the GSF's silver spots when the sun hits them in just the right way. I wonder if it's possible for a camera to capture that reflection; it's like tiny mirrors reflecting the sunlight.

You're right -- a camera (at least my camera) can't do the silver on a GSF justice -- just looks white spots when reproduced instead of the almost surreal "tiny mirrors" you mention. Is there any way to catch that with a digital camera?

I don't know if that's possible. It's kinda of like the silvery mark on a question mark. When I found a dead one that I could look at really closely, it seemed kind of reflective.

I've never found a dead GSF (thank goodness) to be able to look that closely. I do notice that the colors of the flower that they are resting on reflects in the spots. So they look yellow on a yellow flower and orange on an orange one.
