Sue, you're right -- you can see just a small patch of the gravel walkway in the foreground of the first picture. After a full day of trimming, I shot this picture from the same spot:

Unfortunately, very little of the Datura remained, but what's left is healthy and may bloom again. I didn't have the heart (or the energy) to check the cuttings for sphinx moth cats. I hope they were able to keep eating the from cut branches until they could pupate.

The orange cosmos and Mexican sunflowers had fallen over, and red cypress vine had covered the whole pile into a massive tangle. I tied up what I could and cut the rest. Underneath, I found blue salvia, fennel, zinnias, and milkweed hanging on and doing better now that they can get some sun.

This garden is still attracting Gulf Frits, Cloudless Sulphurs and hummingbirds, and I brought in three large Eastern Black Swallowtail cats, which have now pupated.
The lantana on the other side has the same butterflies as well as long-tailed skippers, fiery skippers and silver-spotted skippers. I've also seen a couple of Monarchs and one Painted Lady. {{gwi:447992}}From My Munford Gardens

This is how it looked in June, relatively manicured and with few butterflies.
The nights are getting cool now, but we have sunshine predicted for the next week or so. I'm glad I got back in time to enjoy some of the flowers and butterflies before the season ends.

WOW! I can imagine how much work all the cutting, clearing, etc. must have been. Paths add so much to a garden.

Well, Geni, we received a fair amount of rain this year :) and gardens are back to being lush.
