Moth Resting On A Concrete Wall

Jan. 15, 2,015, at 7:30 p.m. In the evening. I looked out of the glass window, that is to the right of my front door. I saw a small Moth, resting on the concrete wall. I grabbed my camera, and then I went outside. I took a lot of pictures of this small Moth. This Moth was about one half of an inch long. It also did not have any antennae. The colors of this Moth, was hard to describe. Colors- Dark purple, medium purple, dark brown, medium brown, white, some blue? It also had a lot of colorful shapes, all over it's top wings, and all over it's body. I have never seen this Moth, on the Internet before. This is a photo, of the small, colorful Moth, that I saw resting on the concrete wall, near my front door. 6:00 a.m., the next morning, the small, colorful Moth, is still resting on the concrete wall. 7:15 a.m. the next morning. The small, colorful Moth, is gone.....

Woollybear, are you looking for ID's on these photos, or are you just documenting when are where you are spotting moths at your house (in the garage, by the closet, etc)?

I DO NOT know the name, of this small, colorful Moth. YES, I would like to know the name of this Moth, and all the other Moths that I post on this site too......

There is a Facebook group called "Florida Butterflies and Moths Photos." Seems like a much more appropriate place for this photo.

I agree with kcclark. Seems like that is more a group of your peers and they should be able to help you identify your local/regional moths.

Similarly, there are several NABA groups in FL who could provide the information you are seeking.

I think woolly started out on the Insects forum, that is largely a place where posters get their bugs identified, and is a good place for that purpose rather than here in butterfly gardens.

After this ID, I will only ID woolly's moths if they are posted on the Insects forum, unless the moth can be linked to some gardening topic here; there have been various moths discussed here in the past, usually the larger, showier types.

At least here we are back to a live moth.

Crambidae, certainly Samea genus, closest fit is Samea ecclesialis (Assembly Moth), sighted often in Florida.

Here is a larger photo of the Moth that I saw on January 15, 2,015, at 7:30 p.m. in the evening....A beautiful Moth, with very unusual coloring....

I'm not sure, but I think the name of this beautiful Moth, is: Salvinia Stem Borer Moth ( Samea multiplicalis ).....

My Error: This is NOT a Salvinia Stem Borer Moth ( Samea multiplicalis). I believe that this beautiful Moth, is an --- Assembly Moth ( Samea ecclesialis) . My Error.
