This is another photo, of the female Luna Moth, that had eclosed on January 19, 2,015..... I set this female Luna Moth free, on Tuesday, January 20, 2,015, at 8:00 a.m. in the morning. As soon as I set her free, she flew away....

Woollybear, it disturbs me that the adult moths and butterflies are released when there is little or no opportunity for feeding or mating.

Lunas don't feed on anything but their window of opportunity for mating is very small, just a handful of days. Are lunas even found in your location?

But you've released other species at odd times and I've been concerned that you aren't paying proper attention to the natural timing of life cycles.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm totally open to education.

I've read that polys exist year round in southern FL but their range extends farther south than the luna's. Lunas stop in the 9B range in Florida that Woolly claims as home. The average December and January highs there are historically in the mid-70s. To me, that would indicate that January lunas would exist but what I've read indicates January should be the one month when they don't exist. Could be a regional difference where Florida lunas need higher temps than lunas in my neighborhood.

I cannot tell for sure because of these 20 footer photos but I'd say this latest one is a male, again.
