Cathy, that's a Carolina sphinx moth/Manduca sexta, which comes from the (in)famous tobacco hornworm. Those are the cats we most commonly find on our tomatoes, not the actual tomato hornworms.

Thanks for much for the ID, Sherry! That actually makes sense that that's what it is because I had lots of them on my nicotiana/flowering tobacco plants last year. Here's a pic of one of them:

Speaking of the big moths, I planted seven moonflower seeds, all came up in their pots, and I'll be planting them out pretty soon. They really draw in the big sphinx moths!
