Thanks for the help. That will be so cool if it turns out to be that. I will have to keep an eye on it and see if I can get some more pictures. I am just going to let nature take its course with it and not try to raise it myself since there are so few leaves. Also since I don't have a positive id I can't really try moving it to another host plant. That moth isn't listed on my regional checklist at BAMONA, but the moth section for my county is very small and incomplete so that doesn't really mean anything as far is its existence here. So it never ate much and actually pupated in the rolled up buttonbush leaf. Tiny little pupa. I brought it in and it emerged on 5/11 as a tiny moth. I don't know what it is, but I submitted it to BAMONA to find out. Not as exciting as a sphinx moth...that would have been cool.

Ok, I got my id. It is : Broken-banded Leafroller or Dark-banded Fireworm (Choristoneura fractivittana) a moth of the Tortricidae family. Larval food is listed as apple, beech, birch, elm, oak, and raspberry (Rubus spp.) I do have crabapple, elm, and raspberries not to far from the buttonbush but it still would have been quite a journey for such a little guy.

I'd say you are right about subfamily and tribe. As for genus/species, there are a whole lot of moths in the Archipini tribe with wing markings similar to yours. I think the Choristoneura fractivittana is the closest to yours that I've seen but yours has a design on the forewing in the preterminal fascia that I don't see in any Choristoneura fractivittana pics.
