Lucky find! Hope it turns out to be a yellow female. I never saw the female that deposited eggs on my tulip tree that I collected but it's very doubtful that it was yellow.
I haven't seen any Giant Swallowtails so far this year.

Fantastic, Sherry! I'm just glad that there's tigers somewhere. I still haven't seen any kind of tigers other than the 2 Two-tailed Tigers I've released. Unfortunately, the second one emerged about two weeks later than the first. But maybe later on in the year I'll see more tigers!

Linda, the way the butterfly season is going so far, I feel sure you'll be seeing more later on. I guess you get eastern tigers where you are? Do you know what local host plant they favor?
Personally, I'd love to have the two-tailed varieties - 'so interesting looking!

Christie, I hope it turns out to be a yellow female, too, since I've never raised one of those. I see tigers flying high in the tulip trees all the time, so I assume they lay most of their eggs up there or high in the big wild black cherry trees. My little caterpillar molted today, so it should resume eating soon - it ate the old skin first.

I saw a question mark today while I was watering the plants in my front yard. It landed on the fence right in front of me, and I had my camera in my pocket, but I couldn't get it out to take a picture because I had the hose in my hand. I'll be checking the nettles and my little hops vines for eggs and cats. I've got several young winged elm trees, but I've never found a caterpillar on any of them. Maybe they don't like the "winged" type of elm.
