Maybe you were handling this chrysalis away from its cage or container and this wouldn't apply, but I put a thick piece of foam rubber on the bottom of my cages, underneath the paper towels. Then if a caterpillar or chrysalis falls, they'll have a soft landing and not perforate.

to put in another spot. Next time I will put something
soft underneath to transport. Will see if it hatches normally.

Well there were 4 swallowtails that emerged yesterday.
One of them was the one I dropped, couldn't tell which
one it was. They all flew away fine.

Congratulations and Whew :-) There are four more beautiful Swallowtails in the world due to your kind efforts.
