Welcome to the BF forum. I don't get to the OK forum often, but I know Susan does. I can't ID the caterpillar on the Walnut, but someone will be able to help you here. Congrats on the Variegated Fritillaries. Be on the lookout for Gulf Fritillaries too. They are back this year.

I think your caterpillar is a black-blotched schizura/Schizura leptinoides. David Wagner says their favored host plants are hickory and walnut. It'll make a moth.

The fritillary chrysalis is almost done. I can see the wings through the shell. It is the most beautiful chrysalis I've ever seen.

Hi, TigerDawn - it's great to find you posting here! Yes, Variegated Fritillary's have THE most gorgeous chrysalises!

Another caterpillar you may soon come across on Walnut, is the Walnut sphinx. They are also known as the "squeaking" caterpillar because they make a similar sound when handled. They don't get as big as the Tomato hornworms and aren't near as destructive. I find mine on Pecan.

That's so great that Lisa is going to share some passion vine with you. Gulf Frits are beautiful butterflies.

Susan, I don't think so. I have one plant that I can't identify, but I don't remember planting the FN in that spot.
