I am so excited for you!!! I am currently (and hopefully) raising my first cats to butterflies. I bought some really small Spicebushes several years back, and they are finally large enough to support some cat growth. They really do not seem to tolerate sun well here. I had to move them a couple of times to get them to a happy place. I'm sure you already know to be sure that you get Lindera benzoin. I had a friend who excitedly went to her local nursery and brought home expensive Clethra alnifolia plants,( which is also referred to as "Spicebush") hoping to raise Spicebush Swallowtails on it. Bless her heart. She was obviously disappointed when she finally realized her mistake. :o) Good luck to you, and keep us posted!

I made the same mistake c "Indian Plantain" (Cacalia), bought as a host plant for Buckeyes!
Shows how misleading common names are.
At least your friend ended up c a good nectar plant for both Butterflies and Bees.

Anybody in florida have any luck raising spicebush cats? I'm in the tampa area.
