Butterfly Garden

Moving swamp milkweed

I know it is not a good to move milkweed. But I have a couple only about 3 inches or so that are coming up at the foot of other plants and where they won't get much sun. I am wondering if it would be safe to dig deep and move these little ones to a better spot?

Any thoughts?

I move Swamp milkweed all the time, and it does fine. Even plants that have been well established move without missing a beat. The roots tend to be spread out around the stem, but not horribly deep. Just take as much soil with the roots as you are able. Good luck.
