That's a lot of Monarchs, Minrose. The aggressive behavior of males was demonstrated to me when I released some butterflies this summer. Before one of the females could make it a few feet, a male had flown in, knocked her down, and within seconds they were ascending to a tree! Guess they know how to get it done. On the other hand, the Tiger Swallowtails will give chase forever before mating.

Wow! That's REALLY a lot of monarchs! I know you've worked long and hard to raise all those monarch cats!

Monarch mating behavior sounds like gulf frit behavior. Palamedes swallowtails are the most interesting maters here. They dance for hours on end before mating, with more than two of them participating in the dance.

It was so interesting to watch, I felt sorry for the female Monarch but when they parted finally, they flew off just fine!
