What is this and how do I attract more of them?

I've been spending more and more time at the farm I recently bought as we are getting closer and closer to beging building a new house. I found this guy a couple of weeks ago and have never seen one before.

I am planning on spreading a large amount of wildflower seed in the fields for next year and I would like to have plants that will attract more than just monarchs.

Congrats on the luna moth - they're my favorite big moth!

Since adults don't feed, you can only attract lunas with the trees they lay their eggs on. Down here they prefer sweetgum, but up your way they may prefer birches - check the Internet for the many long lists of trees they use. If you plan on planting some trees around your house, you could plant some of those.

You want to attract more of those? I have a 100% guaranteed method: You put female luna moths outside your house.

I'll be here all week. :D

Congrats on your find. I've had neighbors find them on their houses but I've never found one at my house :( They are my favorite moth. I have a load of their cats on sweetgum and paper birch right now. I've gotten a few to switch over to walnut since I'm running low on birch and the sweetgums are a little stunted this year (small leaves).
