Arctic Blue Willow.

I'm considering Arctic Blue Willow (Salix purpurea) as a host plant for one or more butterflies in my area (South Wisconsin). I'm looking for a Salix spp. that behaves itself size wise and serves as a host plant. I think I'm in love with its size, color and texture, but I want to make sure it is a viable host plant...

Hard to say what would adapt to that plant as far south as you, only moths show up using S. purpurea per HOSTS database, all at northerly latitudes.

I was looking at dwarf varieties of willows and the Blue Arctic was most attractive to me. Can you recommend dwarf varieties in my area that attract butterflies (Viceroys, Mourning Cloaks, etc)? I'm looking for a willow to complete my host plant base and most willow trees are just too big for my yard.

Erynnis icelus -Salix bebbiana
Nymphalis antiopa -Salix exigua
Nymphalis antiopa -Salix jepsonii
Nymphalis antiopa -Salix lucida
Nymphalis antiopa -Salix nigra

That's all I can come up with for Salix, the cloak and a skipper,
you would have to find a dwarfing form of one of the above.

This is not a dwarf size but I works great it is sandbar willow Salix interior.
