 o
Trade?

I only have 5 Cynthia eggs left and I don't want to waste them - the rest are all in the mail.
I may get a few more - but is anyone interested in a trade?
1 cocoon or chrysalid for the 5 eggs?
Let me know ASAP, I can't send them too long after they've hatched.

I'm curious, why not? Larva can be shipped in any instar easy enough.

RE: Trade?

What kinds of chrysalides/cocoons are you looking for?

 o
RE: Trade?

Ladobe,
Mostly because I don't have any hostplants here for them - so if they hatch and I don't have anywhere to ship...
I find it can be stressful for the cats too, especially if they haven't eaten anything.

Butterflymomok,
Nothing in particular... saturniidae, swallowtails, monarchs, or whatever, do you have anything?
I'll probably get some more eggs tonight, and following nights, but in smaller numbers (she layed about 130 last night), so I'll let you know.

5 eggs aren't a barrel full, but hey, 5 cats.

She's laying some more eggs now

RE: Trade?

Just curious, if you don't have host plants what are going to do with 125 eggs?

 o
RE: Trade?

I shipped them all.

RE: Trade?

Edna,

Yep, why I asked. Figured it was illicite children they can't feed. LOL

Actually, as polyphagous as this species is you'd have to live on the back side of Mars not to have LFP's for them near you.

RE: Trade?

I buy the cocoons, get pairings, ship the eggs, then buy cocoons.
I live right on the beach so there is nothing but a few pine trees here, and of course the beach grass and shrubs - if you think I can feed them feel free to say it but once you get here you'll think twice.

If anyones interested in trading or want some let me know!

RE: Trade?

SB,are these the single-brooded Cynthias or the sub-species advena? Were the parents siblings?
I've got plenty of Ailanthus to feed them, but not much to trade.Should have monarch chrysalids and luna cooons in 2-3 weeks though.

RE: Trade?

Cecropia,
Parents were siblings - hard to find any wild males here besides Pollies.

I can wait if you'd like to trade, I can send the eggs now and
you can send a chrysalid or cocoon when you get it.
I have about 37 eggs left now, another person wants a few but probably less than 10 to try something.
I just want to get these guys out before they hatch so let me know.

What I said still stands. With around 50 LFP's they'll use something would be in your area if you really cared enough to look for it. Believe it or not there is another world and other habitats inland from the beach a short distance.

Besides weakening the gene pool, forced inbreeding produces low egg viability, high malformation risk and so therefore high mortality. Not a good practice.

RE: Trade?

"forced inbreeding"
Never said I forced the pairing. I actually was surprised they mated so readily so quickly. Many do this and I never had a problem.

If you'd like to jump into peoples backyards to steal branches of their trees, go right ahead. Maybe I can support 1 - 5 cats but nothing more - my backyard consists of a deck, grass, a few small bushes and a small Hibiscis tree. I've tried too raise many things here with no success, except for BST - butterflies - no Saturniidae - I gave Pine, Hibiscis, beach grass, honeysuckle, and a few other things that are here with no success.
There are a few trees here which I cannot get to - unless you expect me to bring a ladder across a busy blvd and start cutting branches and get fined... The rest of the trees are in peoples backyard - people who own 2 properties and use one as a backyard. Why don't you come and see for yourself if you think it's that easy. I also can't stop on the side of the highway and cut branches down ("other habitats").
There are Pine trees by the dunes but never had luck with them. Try for yourself then see how I feel. I have no right to say that you have all the plants in the world near you too and can feed all the Saturniids alive because I've never been to your neighborhood - and you've never been to mine.
THE END.

If anyone would like to trade contact me.
