Mourning Cloak Chrysalids

This morning, between my neighbors' appt and my property, I found 3 Mourning Cloak pupae :-)>
I am busily and happily looking for more (I'm sure they're out there) but so far I've found just the three.
I also discovered 11 late 5th instar American Ladies and two more 3rd instar BST cats.
Oh Happy Days of Summer!!!

That's great, John! I'm SO jealous!

I just love mourning cloaks, but only see them in winter down here, have never had cats.

We cut down a quaking aspen tree last year, and the branches were loaded with mourning cloak caterpillars! we raised a few to maturity, and put some on a new aspen tree. We thought the tree was dead, but they just ate all the leaves off!! They are really cool looking, spines and all!!!

Ouch!! How sad :-(>
Hopefully enough of them were mature enough to crawl off or find new host trees.
Now I understand what happened to that one branch on the neighbors' birch tree...
