Zebra Swallowtail pupation

UPDATE on Zebra Swallowtail caterpillars. All of them have now purged, and they are getting into position for pupation. I've tried not to open the containers too much so as not to stress them. It is interesting to me that even being all scrunched up and surrounded by silk, they will protract those osmeteriums and gas me. They are fiesty little cats. I see one silk harness so far, and that is on #1. Look them over here and let me know if you see any others. You can see the silk spun all around them on the container lids if you look closely. #3 hasn't fully settled in yet and is attached to napkin again this morning. I think that it will move again.

#3 hasn't quite settled on a spot yet. It was on the lid last night.

Yes, they can still gas you alright when pupating, Angie!

Everything is looking good. I hope you've got a good, enclosed place, like a butterfly cage, to put the lids. You don't want to set these outside for the critters to eat, which they might do!

I can't wait to see the butterflies!

#4 is still and quiet. I love that it looks so different from the others. Can't wait to see the chrysalides.

I have just the thing for them Sherry, and you can bet that they won't go outside until they are adult butterflies ready to fly away! I am so excited. Can't wait to see the chrysalides. #1 has the harness already, and it was spinning silk when I opened the container. Thus, the crooked position. :o)
