Tiger or Giant caterpillars?

Hi,
I found some cats on the Hop Tree five days ago. I don't know if they're tigers or giants. They look like bird droppings and they were on top of the leaves. This happened before ( I think it was last summer) and they turned out to be tigers. How long will it take for them to get the "eyes" that tigers get? I live in Ohio so we do have some giants, too. I know it would be easier to identify them if there was a picture but I don't have any way to do that. Thanks.

You should start to see the beginnings of eyespots at the third instar on Tigers. Giants go on looking like big bird droppings.
