I'm not sure whether I see American Ladies or Painted Ladies or both in my yard, but I do see a few of something in the summer, not in abundance like yours. I've never tried to raise them and had never seen a chrysalis so I'm glad to see the photos. Very Cool!

Just beautiful! I notice that the green doesn't show up too well on your pictures, just like it doesn't show well on mine. American ladies are one of the most beautiful cats with the green, red, and black colors.
I especially like the greenish yellow chrysalides, but the brownish gray ones are more common.
I've raised many American ladies, and it's amazing how quickly they grow, pupate, and emerge as butterflies - swallowtails take MUCH longer!
