What type of hornworm is this?

I was told to post this in your forum as you might be able to help:

I am posting this on behalf of my brother and sister-in-law since their computer crashed. They live between NE WI and NC WI. I have done a lot of searching, however I can't identify this. I assume it is a hornworm by the horn at the end. The color varies from lighter green to this dark green. They were found feeding on a annual flowers (buttercups she thinks) near their garden.

My opinion would be white-lined sphinx (Hyles lineata). There is a lot of color/design variation amongst the caterpillars of this species, hence why you will find white-lined sphinx cats that do not look like this one.
