Just snip off the leaf. The leaf will support the chrysalis just fine for the short length of time it'll take for the monarch to emerge. Even if the leaf dried up to dust - which it won't - and the chrysalis didn't have anything left to attach itself to, you could put it in a safe place, and the butterfly will emerge intact.

I have done that very thing! Just cut off a strip of the leaf with the chrysalis attached, and taped that to a paper towel (or the clothespin or whatever).

Monarch chrysalises are also very easy to move by detaching the silk with a pin, or your fingers.

Yes aren't they just amazing to watch grow! Wait until your babies emerge! My favorite moment is when they are released and they fly to freedom. :)
