I cannot BELIEVE it!

Remember the black swallowtail cat I stole from a friend's garden before he was maimed by a 5 year old? He emerged today after only 8 days in the chrysalis. I could not believe it, I have never seen a swallowtail come out that early and I am wondering if he knew it was my birthday! lol Seriously, though, has anyone else had one come out so soon? Thx.

Happy Birthday Shannon! What a nice present!
I've got to admit, I didn't hold out much hope for that caterpillar, not just because of the rough handling, but because it was outside until it was ready to pupate so there's a greater chance of disease or parasites. Glad to hear everything turned out well.
I've raised a bunch of Black Swallowtails and can't remember how long it took for them to emerge.

I've had some come out VERY quickly - a week or so... and some that waited several weeks and several that had over wintered.

Happy Birthday! What a nice present!

I've had many black swallowtails that emerged quickly, but not nearly THAT quickly!

Congrats, congrats!

Happy Belated Birthday & congratulations!!!
I posted on another thread that I had been waiting weeks & even a month for my BSTs to eclose. I moved them from my indoor location to my back porch & have had 24 eclose since I did! Not sure if it is the temps or the sunlight but it sure has sped things up it seems!

Thanks everyone! Not only did he/she emerge quickly, he took off so fast I could hardly get a picture. I am used to my giants having a hard time getting out of the pop up hamper, but that BST hightailed it OUT and was gone from my yard in about 10 seconds. :-(

Glad to hear that the "pilfered" caterpillar has successfully become a butterfly!

I have raised 2 BSTs this year so far, and the first one emerged after 9 days, the 2nd is still in a chrysalis. Can't remember off the top of my head if one ever emerged after only 8 days.
