Thinking about Ladobe

I've been thinking about Larry lately. I've been planning a trip to Beartooth Plateau. Mike and I are flying into Jackson Hole in August with his sister and BIL. BIL was diagnosed with ALS this past spring, so this trip is very special to all of us.

Larry gave me the information back when he talked about the area. It is a place that was probably his most favorite LEP site. So, with the info from Larry, we have mapped out our destinations. We travel through Yellowstone and over to the Top of the World, where we have a cabin for 4 nights. We come back through the Tetons and stay on the lake 2 nights, all places Larry shared.

The only drawback to our trip is that we can't go earlier. The end of July is the best time to be there. However, we have visitors from Laos--our daughter is here in the US. They are currently on the eastern side visiting Pete's family (Florida and North Carolina) and friends (Kentucky). They will be with us the last two weeks of the month. I'm so glad to get to see them and my two grandsons. It's 11 days out right now, and I am counting!!

After the trip, I will report back here to let you know how it went. And, if anyone else is interested in making this trip, I will gladly share the details. The TOTW cabins are $55 a night! Flight to and from JH was $360 apiece. So, it's been doable.

Have a good trip and sorry to hear about BIL.

I've been thinking about Larry too, hoping he is doing OK and wishing he would weigh in on a few topics. My wife actually finished her first ever rearing sleeve last night based on Larry's post on how he made them.

Sandy, I have been thinking about him too. I keep wanting to write "Larry said.." on a bunch of posts. I am sorry to hear about your BIL. My aunt was diagnosed this week with ALS. We are just trying to understand what this means for the family. The trip sounds wonderful.

He posted to a number of outdoor-topic forums. The postings taper off by 2009 and become rare in 2010.

I miss his posts too and come here occasionally to see if there's been any news from him. We were lucky to have him here.

I miss Ladobe's posts too. Where ever he is, I hope he's flying strong!

Thinking about him too! Whenever I see a fritillary (he gave lots of information on how to overwinter the larvae) or a Mourning Cloak (one of the first times I encountered one of his posts), I wonder how he is and feel grateful for his generosity in sharing his hard-earned knowledge.

Just stumbled across this while looking for something else.

I don't think Larry has posted on this forum this year but he is still posting elsewhere. I've seen his posts on another insect forum, the latest being Wednesday.

I've noticed that a lot of other old members are taking this year off too. Really cuts down on the number of replies that topics get. :(

I agree, KC, a lot of our folks I don't see posting anymore. CalSherry (aka Tdogmom) is one I haven't seen in forever, and did so love her posts. She is very knowledgeable about Monarchs and OE. I know she has a website now, but for the life of me, I've lost the information and don't know where it is. I can do a search and maybe find it.

You just made me realize I had a major brain fart the other day. todancewithwolves (Edna) posted and my mind transposed that with tdogmom and I thought I was responding to CalSherry. Either way, it is rare to see a post from them these days.
