Help getting started

Hi there! I'm in my first year of butterfly gardening, which has turned out to be a pretty big bust. I thought I was doing all the right things by having a good mix of nectar and host plants, a water fountain, and some shade, with the hopes of attracting a variety of butterflies. But half way through summer, I only see the odd White Cabbage come by for a visit. We've had a sighting of a Yellow Swallowtail and another of a White Admiral, but they were just passing by and didn't visit.

I've planted milkweed, agastache, mallow and about a dozen other things I've looked up that I thought would do the trick. I even have a sign that says "Buttery Fly" garden, and that doesn't seem to help either ;-)

I have three very disappointed little girls on my hands, so any and all advice on how to attract butterflies would be welcome :-)

Thank you!

(I'm in Zone 8b in Coquitlam, BC)
