Yes, that looks great. You probably will need to provide fresh leaves every day, but they only need tiny bits at first. If you are worried about having enough food, start searching now for friends or coworkers or neighbors who might be gardeners and might have dill, fennel, parsley, carrots, or Queen Anne's Lace growing in their yards. Just be careful to avoid any plants that might have been sprayed with pesticides or grown with systemic pesticides. Good luck. You're off to a great start.

Pick you parsley in the cool of the day (early morning or very late in the evening after it has cooled down.
Re-cut the stem under water.. They seem to absorb the water better this way.

Looks just fine for now. Connie's suggestion about cutting the host plants in early morning or late evening is a great one. I have noticed that the plants fare much better if I do that. And, as Martha pointed out, you want to avoid pesticide laden plants. The litte bitty ones won't eat a lot, but once they get bigger, you will need more food. I would also keep the container dry and out of direct sunlight.The cats will stop eating and become still when it is time for them to molt. Don't worry. You will be shocked by how much they change with each molt. Very cool caterpillars. Good luck, and keep us posted!

My first outing is going well so far, I think. They are getting bigger. How long until they molt?

Sadly, most of the cats I left outside seem to have vanished. Some bird or bug must be happy.
