It was awfully darn hot here last year but I till managed to raise several black swallowtails, question marks, and monarchs last year.

This year has been pretty darn hot here as well... today was 108. I currently have more swallowtails than I can feed and the fritillaries are laying eggs non stop!

The only problem I seemed to have last year was in relation to the drought. It was so dry here that I think a lot of migrating butterflies couldn't make it here due to no nectar/host plants. I am a little concerned about the Monarch's migration back this year if the drought continues.

Local meteorologists were reporting that the La Nina seems to be weakening (which is a good thing.)

I live near Fort Worth where it regularily gets to 100. As the other poster mentioned, your cats should be okay. The problem is is that their host plant (dill, you said?) doesn't like the heat and will begin to decline. If you buy more dill at the garden center, it might be treated with pesticides (an herb for human consumption, I know!) or BT (a larvicide.) What you should do is buy pots of dill now, keep it in its pot so you can bring it out of the heat and cut it down so the new growth doesn't have the pesticides on it.
