Hmmmm..... you could plant some trees for future butterflies, Christy, like tulip poplar/Liriodendron tulipifera, wild black cherry/Prunus serotina, and willow/Salix nigra. Also some bushes/small trees like hop tree/Ptelea trifoliata and pawpaw/Asimina triloba. A great small bush to plant is rue/Ruta graveolens - it hosts both giant and black swallowtails.
Milkweed is a great nectar plant as well as host plant, so the more you plant of that the better! Which type you plant should depend on which type grows best where you live.
Something for sulphurs is good. Where I live, it's types of cassia, but I think up there, clovers are most commonly used - please check this out on the FAQ. Take note of which sulphurs you see in your area, and check out their host plant.
Butterfly bush/Buddleia and lantana are great nectar plants. There are several hardy lantanas, including Miss Huff and Sonset.
You can plant Mexican sunflowers/tithonia from seed each year - they're annuals - and the butterflies will flock to them -

Thank you, I will look into those :) I picked up some Zinnia, Black and Blue Salvia, Hot Lips Salvia, Luna Hibiscus, Petunia's (my favorite :), Aztec Verbena, and Lobelia. I'm ordering online a sweet almond bush, 2 milkweed plants, hollyhock and black eyed susan and milkweed seeds, 2 Monarda, an Eastern Red Cedar (might order more of those), an Osmanthus x fortunei 'Fruitlandii' , 5 Phlox David, a Vitex and an Atlantic White Cedar. Phew!!! I feel like I'm off to a good start!!!! The trees are for future butterflies, and I may pick up more than just one of the ones I have listed. Thanks for any advice!!! Christy :)
