Third brood of cats gone from my fennel. Hope they traveled and did not fall prey to the vermin (chipmunks...cute but destructive), wasps or birdies.
I feel so guilty not raising any this year. I have seen many more butterflies in my yard this year- so I hope some of the cats made it.
Is it really true that one in one hundred cats make it to adulthood??

Sounds like you're doing OK too, so don't feel too guilty about not raising. Your host plants should hold up too.
I only raise my cats to mid fifth instars before releasing-at night- so they get enough of a head start. I always get returns, even in this stark year in the Midwest. The only things that have been normal to plentiful this year are American Ladies and those Cabbage whites. I raise every Monarch I find, and am just winding up c my Black Swallowtails for the year. I'm about out of fennel. Good luck and keep up the great work:)
