| Hi all,
Activity has picked up! I had a second visit from a female tiger swallowtail to my purple coneflowers today, as well as a male black swallowtail last week, and enjoyed photographing butterflies for the first time today. But the highlight of the day, and probably the season, was my first red-spotted purple, which showed up stuck under the canopy in my yard. I never would have expected to find one in my yard, since I thought they were confined to woods, and I'm a few miles away from extensive woodlands. I thought it was a pipevine swallowtail at first, but when I was looking through my field guide I noticed the pipevine has "tails", and my butterfly didn't. I'd like to post a few pictures of the swallowtail and RSP, but I have no clue how to get pictures on here. If anybody could help with that I'd really appreciate it. If only the swallowtail or RSP would find my new black cherry tree... |

| They may have found your cherry tree already, because RSP cats are very difficult to find. RSP's are common where I live, and I've spent a lot of time looking on the cherry trees and never found one. |

| Thanks for the help! And I sure hope they have. The tree is only about 3 feet tall right now and I check it for eggs just about every day. Here are some of the pictures, the blue on the red-spotted purple was really exaggerated by the flash. http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z344/jibd123/TigerSwallowtail.jpg http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z344/jibd123/IMG_0700.jpg http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z344/jibd123/IMG_0727.jpg http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z344/jibd123/IMG_0728.jpg http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z344/jibd123/IMG_0705.jpg Sorry for the blurriness, but I was happy just to get some clear ID pictures. Enjoy! |
