Finally, a few Monarch Eggs!

Mary Leek

I've seen a Monarch do a quick fly through 4 or 5 times this past week. Never enough time to get close enough to sex it so wondered if it was a male looking for a female. Then late yesterday while checking for aphids, I came across an egg! Upon closer inspection of other milkweed, discovered 4 more eggs. I'm going to cut out the portion of leaf with the egg and bring them in. BTW, with young, tender growth on the A incarnata and Common Milkweed available, the eggs were discovered on Tropical and Oscar Milkweed leaves.

In order to maintain moisture in the leaf pieces, do I understand I should keep them in a closed plastic container until they hatch? Should I open each day to allow for the exchange of air?

All of the eggs are really important this year so want to do this correctly.
