My butterfly book calls them "LBJ"s--Little brown jobs. You mean that isn't a good enough identification?

RE: Is this a two-spotted skipper?

It does look like the one in my field guide, but then all LBJs look alike to me! My field guide says that's a rare and local type.

RE: Is this a two-spotted skipper?

LOL- I'm quite new to photographing butterflies (even though I've loved them all along), and don't own a book as yet-majority's on birding & gardening. So little brown job it is!

Sherry- just curious- did they give the name of the local and rare one? I live in Westchester County, NY. I'll try and see what comes up in their guide. Thanks again, Nerry

RE: Is this a two-spotted skipper?

Under the section for Two-Spotted Skippers, my field guide, Kaufman's Butterflies of North America says, "Rare and highly localized in sedgy meadows, marshes, bogs..........Larval Foodplant: Sedges"

I don't usually even try to ID the little grass skippers. A single spot or smudge here or there can make the difference as to which species it is. It looks like ?a pepper plant? of some type it's perched on - are there boggy areas nearby?
