I glanced in the cage around noon today and this is what I saw. I'm excited, but actually I'm more in a state of awe, at how beautiful and intricate he is. ( I think it's a he.)

Sorry the pictures are so bad, but the caterpillars parked in a very awkward spot to form the chrysalides, and the butterfly is hanging out right over the door, so it's hard to get the camera in there. He's only opened his wings a couple of times so far, so I'm not sure he's fully dry yet.

And he's off! He started crawling around the cage, flapping his wings, so I took him outside the porch, opened the door, he climbed up on my finger, and he was off! Absolutely a miraculous feeling!

I still haven't gotten over that feeling of wonder and happiness every time I release a butterfly! How a caterpillar can make a chrysalis and then emerge a few weeks later as a butterfly is one of Nature's most impressive miracles!

Congrats on the beautiful male BST! He is a stunner. I agree with Sherry. That feeling never goes away. I'm as awed by every release as I was with the first. It's a very spiritual experience.

Ditto MissSherry and Angie ^^^. There is a feeling of excitement when the butterfly is released to freedom that is unsurpassed. We have protected and helped that butterfly along to adulthood, when it is returned to nature to live out its life in the manner in which it was designed. What could be more natural? It's my favorite moment!
