Beautiful, it's called a Red-Spotted Purple and they really don't visit flowers all that often but instead prefer fruit. They also will lay their eggs on Willows. Hope it sticks around for awhile for you, Jason

They're so beautiful, aren't they? This has been a big year for red-spotted purples - I'm raising my 4th batch, I think it is.

They prefer wild black cherry/Prunus serotina here, but will lay eggs on other trees, like willows and crabapples.
