Is my Common Milkweed dead?

Jim

This was my first year of getting a Monarch Waystation in my yard. It turned out pretty well considering the unbelievable wet Spring, followed by the unbelievable hot and dry Summer. The nectar seeds did the best, but not the milkweed seeds, so I ended up buying plants from nurseries to supplement. I ended up getting one Common Milkweed to start off. It was doing all right, and I even got a monarch caterpillar feeding on it for about 10 days (see link). However, the plant was so small, the caterpillar ran out of leaves to eat and vanished. And since then, the stalks of the remaining plant have browned out and fallen down. Has the plant died? Is there any way of knowing other than waiting till next year? Curious if I should plant another before Fall to get a start on next year. THANKS
